Born 5-13-16. Some years we do a fun theme for names. This year we decided to go with American Made Muscle Cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s. We have had some fun researching them. This filly is named after the 1965–1972 Buick Riviera GS and 1973–1974 Buick Riviera GS Stage 1 Performance Package
‘Riviera’ is a bay roan filly with a star, left rear partial pastern and right rear small white dot on hoof line. If you look at pictures of her mama, Peponita Roan Bar JW aka Strawberry, you will see a very dark chestnut roan mare that looks almost the color of a chocolate tootsie roll but when she was born she was as sorrel and roan as could be hence the name Strawberry as in strawberry roan. Then she shed a sort of blue color so we thought Blueberry? Then she got sort of dark and purple so we thought Raspberry? Anyway she never has been the color of a strawberry roan but the name just stuck. Strawberry is 92% foundation bred and registered with NFQHA. We raised her out of our mare, Fancy Roan Belle aka Roany who is a cornerstone mare for our program with several of her offspring and grand offspring retained by us. Her sire was Mr Salty Peponita. Strawberry has a very sweet personality and a feminine look to her. She has an awesome hip and is bred with a load of cow and an old fashioned foundation pedigree and she was fun to ride. Her Roan Bar/Peponita bloodlines only speaks for themselves.
Riviera’s sire is JK Jay Reed aka Pine Cone, a 96% foundation bred stallion. The JK Jay Reed horses have a huge amount of ‘cow’. They are very smart, athletic, kind and fast learners. They are the kind of horses that can go any direction from the ranch to trail to show to rodeo. His pedigree speaks for itself and is as foundation bred as they come. Poco Pine, Continental King, Whiskey Bert, Joe Reed II are all on his papers. It is important to note that King P-234 is very close up in his pedigree and he traces to King a total of 6 times! Rivieria is 94% foundation eligible with the NFQHA. She should have a sweet disposition and will have the ability to go any direction for us. We are so excited for her birth and can’t wait to see her mature. Check out her older sister Raz Ber Rita Reed JW a blue roan 2014 filly.
UPDATE 9-24-16. Beautiful bay roan filly with lots of expression and style. Boy was she a hard one to part with but we are very happy with the opportunities she will have in her new home.
