Born 5-21-21 ‘Birch’ is a buckskin colt with no white on his face and an inside right hind heel. This year our names are flower/tree/rangeland plants themed. It stuck when our first foal was born and we started calling her ‘Posie’ which means a ‘bunch of flowers’. So, we decided to go with it.
Birch is the first foal for his dam HQ Lightupthebrazos. “Brazos” is a nice palomino mare out of the first foal crop from her sire, CD Cyna Dee, owned by Hockenson Quarter Horses in Iowa. This stallion they call “Lights” is making a name for himself in the cowhorse world. CD Cyna Dee is an AQHA point earner in 10 events including, working cowhorse, tie-down roping, heeling, heading, reining, ranch riding, cutting, performance halter, poles and barrels. He has an LTE of $26,569 in NRCHA, NRHA and ARHFA. He is a 22X AQHA World Show Qualifier and placed 12th in the 2017 AQHA World Finals in Junior Heading. He earned his AQHA Open Superior in 2017 as well. He was also the 2017 SDRCHA Jr. Cowhorse of the year. As of 2021 he has 10 money earning offspring out of his 35 total offspring to total $27,206 in NRCHA, Ranch and other events. He also has 2 offpspring who have AQHA pts totaling 66. Brazos’ dam, Sevens Brazos Lily, is by Wier Ranch’s AQHA Champion Two Eyed Brazos who is also a multi AQHA World Show Top 10 contender and has 184.5 pts in heading, heeling, barrels, poles & halter. She is out of Rondos Lucky Time, daughter of Hes Dun His Time, a NRCH Open Reserve Futurity Champion with LTE of $108,722. Brazos had all the makings to head to the show pen but we decided to breed her instead and get those genetics into our program. We believe Birch to be the first grandget of CD Dyna Cee.
Birch sire is Whoop Up Whiskey. ‘Whoop’ is a 2010 son of Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of a great John Scott mare, My Little Sugar Babe. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile. A key difference between Whoop Up Whiskey and our other PIW son, TRR Paddys Texas Gin, is the dam pedigree. While both dams go back to Doc O Lena, Whoop’s goes to Doc O Dynamite who also stood at the John Scott Ranch. Doc O Dynamite was an Equi-State leading cutting sire from 1999-2005 who produced money earners and according to his performance record, his daughters have produced many money earning foals in AQHA, NCHA, NRHA and NRCHA. Doc O Dynamite has a pedigree that traces back to Three Bars giving a bit more stretch and speed to his offspring and shows up on the pedigree of many arena and speed event horses. Whoop Up Whiskey aka Whoop brings that little more height and length and speed to our program as compared to TRR Paddys Texas Gin and Top Gun Whiskey. He has excellent bone, athleticism and conformation. His lineage tells us that his offspring will have cow and will be capable of performing at any level. Whoop’s foals are breaking out really kind and level headed.
Birch should be a nice all-around prospect with a lot of style. He will be able to excel in the arena or on the ranch as well. We are seeing a lot of that style and grace in these Whoop babies. With his dam side of pedigree, Birch could be a serious reined cowhorse as well.
