Born 4-25-17.This fancy filly deserved a nice pedigree name and was named after Peponita’s mother, Bonita Tivio. ‘Bonita’ is a bay roan filly with a white forehead hairs, left rear pastern with distal spots. We have a color test to verify the roaning as she is not very shed out yet. If you look at pictures of her mama, Peponita Roan Bar JW aka Strawberry, you will see a very dark chestnut roan mare that looks almost the color of a chocolate tootsie roll but when she was born she was as sorrel and roan as could be hence the name Strawberry as in strawberry roan. Then she shed a sort of blue color so we thought Blueberry? Then she got sort of dark and purple so we thought Raspberry? Anyway she never has been the color of a strawberry roan but the name just stuck. Strawberry is 92% foundation bred and registered with NFQHA. We raised her out of our mare, Fancy Roan Belle aka Roany who is a cornerstone mare for our program with several of her offspring and grand offspring retained by us. Her sire was Mr Salty Peponita. Strawberry has a very sweet personality and a feminine look to her. She has an awesome hip and is bred with a load of cow and an old fashioned foundation pedigree and she was fun to ride. Her Roan Bar/Peponita bloodlines only speaks for themselves. She had a 2014 blue roan filly, Raz Ber Rita Reed JW and a 2016 bay roan filly Riveria Reed JW.
This is Strawberry’s first foal by Whoop Up Whiskey. ‘Whoop’ is a 2010 son of Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of a great John Scott mare, My Little Sugar Babe. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile. A key difference between Whoop Up Whiskey and our other PIW son, TRR Paddys Texas Gin, is the dam pedigree. While both dams go back to Doc O Lena, Whoop’s goes to Doc O Dynamite who also stood at the John Scott Ranch. Doc O Dynamite was an Equi-State leading cutting sire from 1999-2005 who produced money earners and according to his performance record, his daughters have produced many money earning foals in AQHA, NCHA, NRHA and NRCHA. Doc O Dynamite has a pedigree that traces back to Three Bars giving a bit more stretch and speed to his offspring and shows up on the pedigree of many arena and speed event horses. Whoop Up Whiskey aka Whoop brings that little more height and length and speed to our program as compared to TRR Paddys Texas Gin. He has excellent bone, athleticism and conformation. His lineage tells us that his offspring will have cow and will be capable of performing at any level.
We fully expect this to be a top foal for the year if she develops to her genetic potential. Strawberry and Whoop are disposition plus horses. Bonita will have all the right moves to go any direction in the cowhorse world from cutting, reining, versatility, reined cowhorse, rodeo performance or just all around ranch horse. We are seeing a lot of style and grace in these Whoop babies.
