2023 Red Dun Mare
Return to Previous Page

Born 8-23-23  ‘Ginger’ is red dun filly with possibly some white coronet bands on her hind feet and maybe front left. We will have to wait and see as she sheds for further clarification. We didn’t use a theme name for her.

Ginger’s dam is a mare we raised, Taz. Taz’s sire was JK Jay Reed.  Our first stallion that was 96% foundation. Her mother, Baby Ruth, is grade but she raised 15 foals for us (including her last one in 2023) and she is important to our son and to us.  Taz was Baby Ruth’s FIRST foal and although she may not be registered, but her background is all quarter horse and fairly high percentage foundation.  Her bloodlines are accurate even without the papers to prove it.  Taz was purchased by repeat customers from TN. They registered with other association based on her color and competed in ranch horse competitions and she had one foal with them as well.  We had the chance to purchase her back in 2015.  She was put to work here on the ranch for several years until we decided to breed her in 2022. This was her first foal for us, but her 2nd foal overall.  Ginger will continue her grandma’s mare line as Baby Ruth has been retired.

Ginger’s sire is Goldun Topsail aka  “Topper” who is a 90% NFQHA (F0039287) dun stallion. He is our newest stallion and this is his 3rd foal crop. We acquired Topper as part of a package deal with his dam, Whizzin Lena. As a grandson of Topsail Whiz and a son of Jaz Poco Goldun Blue we could not be happier. His dam, Whizzin Lena aka Whiz is an older mare we purchased from Ryan Fleetwod at Fleetwood Farms. Bred at Bob Loomis Quarter Horses in Oklahoma, Whiz is a very well-bred reining mare.  Sired by Topsail Whiz, the 1st and only NRHA 12 million dollar sire, and out of a mare by Justa Doc Olena by Doc O Lena, this mare was third in the South Country Derby Non-Pro division in 2001 and won the Non-Pro Reining Futurity at the Canadian Supreme in Red Deer, Alberta. Whiz’s earnings include NRHA $3,754. She also has four performing foals. Her sire Topsail Whiz is in the Hall of Fame, a NRHA money earner, NRHA #1 all time leading sire, AQHA World Show Qualifier, AQHA Leading Sire and ROM Performance. Topper’s sire is Jaz Poco Goldun Blue who is the most photographed or well-known grulla horse. He is 95% foundation and 27% Poco Bueno. With all the titles to his name, and to his progeny, there is no doubt that this is a horse who truly has it all - conformation, disposition, trainability, talent - all wrapped up in that great grulla color!“ as stated by Ryan Fleetwood of Feetwood Farms about Jaz Poco Goldun Blue. He is a NRHA money earner and a World Champion Sire. Topper has been here maturing and growing. He was started very well under saddle as a two year old.

Ginger is the first from this pairing. She won’t be able to be registered, but her bloodlines are accurate and she is foundation bred through and through. Her dam has proved to be a good using horse for us. We feel Ginger will have the ability to be a great ranch horse for us. We will be keeping her.
