Born 5-3-17. Some years we do a fun theme for names. This year we decided to go with names of characters from The Lion King Movie from 1994. Some of the characters will be more well-known than others and some names are from the sequel movies. Simba was the young prince of the lion pride and son of Mufasa and destined to lead the pride.
‘Simba’ is a bay stallion with an irregular star and now other white. Simba is going to be a powerful athlete. Mujer Lucy Skip JW, is a beautiful buckskin mare with a frosted mane that is 83% NFQHA. She was purchased from Grantier Quarter Horses because her mare line is very close to several of our VERY PROVEN ranch horses. Mujer Tacky Jay, now deceased, made a name for himself producing using horses for the family, ranch, arena and youth. We really believe in these horse families.
This is the sixth breeding between Lucy and TRR Paddys Texas Gin and they have not disappointed us. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile—Tanquery Gin, Doc O’Lena, Docs Starlight, Poco Tivio, Peppy San Badger. The 2010 full brother, Paddys Gin Laredo JW , is now in Nebraska on a ranch. 2012 full brother, Paddys Gin Skip JW is ranching and having a show career with Matt and Jessica Schlegel and Schlegel Horse Training in reined cowhorse. His maternal 2013 brother, Hokey Pokey Reed JW, also went to the Schelgals as all-around ranch horse and started very well. 2014 full sister, Paddys Gin Sash JW, stayed with a family here in ND. 2015 Paddys Gin Bert JW went to Montana with a repeat buyer as well.
This is Tex’s ninth foal crop. He puts very thick and muscular foals on the ground with very nice muscle expression on them as well as a lot of athleticism and as they develop they have a lot of vigor. The oldest ones have been started under saddle by various buyers and we are hearing good things from all of them. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile—Tanquery Gin, Doc O’Lena, Docs Starlight, Poco Tivio, Peppy San Badger.
Simba will have all the right moves and ‘cowiness’ to make an excellent performance, ranch, or rope horse. He will be a dynamo package with a good disposition. This is turning out to be a very nice and proven cross and they are all very consistent in build and reaching 14-3 to 15 hands. We strongly feel that buyers will not be disappointed in this cross.

UPDATE 5-23-18. Simba is a fantastic colt and he has now went home to Schlegel Quarter Horses. Matt Schlegel shows all our horses and starts/breaks our prospects and ranch horses. Jessica Schlegel owns the full brother to Simba names Paddys Gin Skip JW who is actively showing and doing very well in Reined Cowhorse. They are excited to have him and we are excited for them to help promote this cross. There is another 2018 full brother on the ground who is solid buckskin.
