Thanks John!

Born 5-6-17. Some years we do a fun theme for names.  This year we decided to go with names of characters from The Lion King Movie from 1994.  Some of the characters will be more well-known than others and some names are from the sequel movies. "Rafiki" means "friend" in Swahili and he is a baboon who serves as the shaman and adviser of the Lion King.

‘Rafiki’ is a bay stallion with a disconnected short strip and a small triangle on the inside of the left rear pastern.  It is actually pretty cool that he got that funky little strip in this generation as that is a trait that comes from his maternal granddam, Little Sapa.  This is the first foal for his mama, Sapa Hula Drift JW, and she is doing an excellent job as a first time mama. Hula has excellent conformation and we are pleased with her as our first Walter O Rielly filly that we have retained.  She IS a Smoky Black and as a broodmare in our program down the road she can produce buckskins, palominos or perhaps other smoky blacks.  She was started under saddle and showed us that she is trainable.  She is friendly and catchable about anywhere. Hula’s sire, Radar, is 90.234% NFQHA bred perlino stallion that goes to King P-234 ten times, to Driftwood four times with strong doses of Joe Reed, Three Bars and a little Doc Bar. This is our very first mare we have kept for ourselves from him to cross back on our Paddys Irish Whiskey stallions. We are extremely excited to see what Hula continues to do for our program and how Rafiki develops. Hula is out of our mare, Little Sapa. Take a good look at the speed pedigree on Hula’s bottom side. According to Circle Dot Horses, Mia Cash Too was a gentle, AAA Stakes Place Winner with a nice disposition who ran the 3rd fastest qualifying time in the All-American Derby. Mia Cash Too sired foals that went on to be race horses, barrel horses, arena horses and also had plenty of cow.  Little Sapa leaves Dash For Cash on Hula’s papers and also give her Three Bars and Jet Deck through both Easy Jet and Jet Smooth.

This is Tex’s nineth foal crop. TRR Paddys Texas Gin puts very thick and muscular foals on the ground with very nice muscle expression on them as well as a lot of athleticism and as they develop they have a lot of vigor. The oldest ones have been started under saddle by various buyers and we are hearing good things from all of them.  The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile—Tanquery Gin, Doc O’Lena, Docs Starlight, Poco Tivio, Peppy San Badger. Rafiki should have a nice disposition, giving every indication that he is willing to be a friend as his name implies, plus speed and cow combination. He should be able to be an all around performance horse, but barrel racers need to take notice of the speed he adds on his bottom side. We have a slightly lower introductory price on him due to his mama being a first time mama and that is what we usually do on first foals.  Thanks for looking at him!
