Born 5-7-20 ‘Empire’ is a bay filly with a star and a rear left partial white pastern that is higher on the inside. We have chosen two themes this year to name our foals, one is using names of Texas cities or towns and the other to continue with western names for only our Whoop foals. The particular foal gets a special name because her mother is one of our saddle horses we use on the ranch.
Empire’s dam is My Kittys Belle JW who is 91% NFQHA. She is one of our proven saddle horses and we are very excited to get a foal from her! Belle was shown by our daughter in Colt to Maturity 4-H classes as a yearling to 5 year old. Belle is a very kind mare and an energetic riding horse. She’s very quick, sure footed and a natural lead changer both in the arena and out in the hills. Whether you line her out to ride the pasture or put her in a circle in the arena, she stays where you put her until you are ready to stop and then ‘stop’ she does. She has spent most of her life behind cattle here at the ranch. We have a full sister to Belle, 2009 My Kittys Melody JW, who is also in our broodmare bunch and has produced REALLY nice foals for us. So nice we kept 3 out of her 4 for ourselves. Belle’s mother, My Little Kitty, was owned by Barbra Kennedy Johnson and was given to Ella. Belle’s sire was our late 96% NFQHA stallion, JK Jay Reed, who was a consistent producer. His last foal crop is 2020. This is another example of a JK Jay Reed daughter we have bred back to our Paddys Irish Whiskey sons. We are very happy with this cross!
Empire’s sire, Top Gun Whiskey, is one of four Paddys Irish Whiskey sons that we have owned. This is his second foal crop. We decided to give Top Gun a shot at the show ring before breeding him. In 2016 he qualified for the AQHA World Show in Jr Reining, Jr Reining Level 2 and Jr Cowhorse Level 2; in 2017 he qualified for the AQHA World Show in Jr Cowhorse, Jr Cowhorse Level 2 and Open Heading Level 2 placing 6th. It has been an interesting ride as he continued to show during the 2018 year as well as breed some of our mares for 2019 foals. Top Gun qualified for the 2018 World NRCHA show, was 2018 North Central Regional NRCHA Champion and has earned 47 AQHA performance points in reining, working cow horse, heading, vrh cutting, vrh confirmation, vrh reining and heeling. He also has his AQHA Open Performance ROM. Top Gun was injured during 2019 breeding season that cut his showing career short, but he still qualified for NRCHA Celebration of Champions in LTD Open Bridle. He was North Central Region NRCHA 4th place LTD Open Bridle and North Central Region NRCHA 9th place Open Bridle. Check out his stallion page for the most up to date information as we will change it as it happens.
We are excited to see how Empire matures out. She should have plenty of athletic ability with a great personality to be pointed in any direction. Empire suffered a pasture injury that will limit some of her athleticism but she will make a great and fun asset to the ranch as a broodmare for us. We exposed Empire to Goldun Topsail and she had a bay colt, Phobos Topsail JW in 2024. She is left open for 2025.
