Born 6-30-21 “Basil” is a bay stallion with high white on three legs and white on face that extends down to lower lip. This year our names are flower/tree/rangeland plants themed. It stuck when our first foal was born and we started calling her ‘Posie’ which means a ‘bunch of flowers’. So we decided to go with it.
Basil’s dam is one of our newer mares, Lethas Lena aka Lena. She is a sweet well-built stocky bay mare. Her sire is Lethal Playgun owned by GBL Farms. He has a black type pedigree inclusive of multiple maternal money earning siblings (one being Thomas E. Hughes) having earned more than $812,000. Lethal Playgun’s dam, Smart Letha, is Equistat #83 all-time leading dam and has paternal siblings with earnings in excess of over $9 million. Lethal Playgun was awarded his Performance ROM in 2005 and is a NDQHA Derby Money Earner. He is a proven producer of money earners in NCHA, NRHA, and NRCHA as well as AQHA point earners. He has also produced winners in barrel racing, roping, and open show events. He himself doesn’t have any earnings, but he did acquire some points in AQHA reining. The other names on “Lena’s” papers are just stacked with money earners!! Lena’s dam side is just as impressive and brings more of the older foundation bred athletes to her pedigree. What really attracted her to us on the bottom was Peponita. We currently have 3 granddaughters of Peponita and really love what they have done for our program, so to be able to add another was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up! Click on her webpage to read more about what she has to offer. Her first foal 2019 Whiskey Up Zena JW, is a full sibling to this one and went to Illinois.
Basil’s sire is Whoop Up Whiskey. ‘Whoop’ is a 2010 son of Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of a great John Scott mare, My Little Sugar Babe. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile. A key difference between Whoop Up Whiskey and our other PIW son, TRR Paddys Texas Gin, is the dam pedigree. While both dams go back to Doc O Lena, Whoop’s goes to Doc O Dynamite who also stood at the John Scott Ranch. Doc O Dynamite was an Equi-State leading cutting sire from 1999-2005 who produced money earners and according to his performance record, his daughters have produced many money earning foals in AQHA, NCHA, NRHA and NRCHA. Doc O Dynamite has a pedigree that traces back to Three Bars giving a bit more stretch and speed to his offspring and shows up on the pedigree of many arena and speed event horses. Whoop Up Whiskey aka Whoop brings that little more height and length and speed to our program as compared to TRR Paddys Texas Gin and Top Gun Whiskey. He has excellent bone, athleticism and conformation. His lineage tells us that his offspring will have cow and will be capable of performing at any level. Whoop’s foals are breaking out really kind and level headed.
Basil should be a nice all-around prospect with a lot of style. He will be able to excel in the arena or on the ranch as well. We are seeing a lot of that style and grace in these Whoop babies.
“Don’t miss a chance to COWBOY UP with a WHISKEY UP foal!”
