Born 4/29/20 “Latigo” is a bay stallion with a few white forehead hairs, rear right pastern and a left rear white ankle. We have chosen two themes this year to name our foals, one is using names of Texas cities or towns and the other to continue with western names for only our Whoop foals.
His dam, My Kittys Melody JW, is one of our own JK Jay Reed aka Pine Cone daughters. Melody is 91% NFQHA. Her pedigree is solid with good dispositions all around and Melody has had a friendly disposition since birth. Melody has a very feminine face, gorgeous neck, kind eye, good bone, nice hip and as a plus, her mane ALL goes to the right giving her a very clean look. She was started under saddle when she was three and she did very well. She started her ranch work career in 2013 and showed the right amount of ‘cow’ to enter the broodmare bunch. Her 2015 foal Paddys Gin Bay JW stayed with us and had her first foal in 2019. We also kept Melody’s 2017 foal, My Sandra Drift JW for one of our ranching and broodmare prospects. Her 2019 filly, My Little Boon San, is another one of hers we have retained.
Latigo’s sire is Whoop Up Whiskey. ‘Whoop’ is a 2010 son of Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of a great John Scott mare, My Little Sugar Babe. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile. A key difference between Whoop Up Whiskey and our other PIW son, TRR Paddys Texas Gin, is the dam pedigree. While both dams go back to Doc O Lena, Whoop’s goes to Doc O Dynamite who also stood at the John Scott Ranch. Doc O Dynamite was an Equi-State leading cutting sire from 1999-2005 who produced money earners and according to his performance record, his daughters have produced many money earning foals in AQHA, NCHA, NRHA and NRCHA. Doc O Dynamite has a pedigree that traces back to Three Bars giving a bit more stretch and speed to his offspring and shows up on the pedigree of many arena and speed event horses. Whoop Up Whiskey aka Whoop brings that little more height and length and speed to our program as compared to TRR Paddys Texas Gin. He has excellent bone, athleticism and conformation. His lineage tells us that his offspring will have cow and will be capable of performing at any level. Whoop’s foals are breaking out really kind and level headed.
We are very excited about this pairing. We have kept every single foal Melody has given us, so we are happy to offer a colt to the public of hers. We are very high on her offspring! This colt should mature to a 15+ hand horse with some style to him and the ability to really be a nice versatile horse.
