Born 5-11-25. Some years we do a fun theme for names. This year we have chosen movie themes for our different stallions. Top Gun Whiskey foals will be named after the Top Gun Call Signs from the original 1986 movie. Next year we will do similar call signs from the 2022 movie. Our other stallions will have Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit themed names. This filly is named Galadriel. Galadriel is a character created by J. R. R. Tolkien in his Middle-earth writings. She appears in The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. Galadriel was a royal Elf of both the Noldor and the Teleri, being a grandchild of both King Finwë and King Olwë.
‘Galadriel’ is a bay filly with a star and white rear right pastern. Her dam, Angel Lace Reed JW, aka Angel, is a mare we raised ourselves and is a very special mare for us as she is named after her wonderful grandmother, BP Princess Lace, who is now deceased after raising her very last foal for us in 2014. Angel is just a fantastic JK Jay Reed daughter out of a Peponita granddaughter, Peponita Laceyed JW. She is moderately sized and nice and thick. We are pretty excited about what she is looking like. We think we see a bit of the Two Eyed Jack coming through from her maternal side. Angel is 94% NFQHA (F0039271). The dam’s sire is our very own JK Jay Reed aka Pine Cone, a 96% foundation bred stallion. The JK Jay Reed horses have a huge amount of ‘cow’. They are very smart, athletic, kind and fast learners. They are the kind of horses that can go any direction from the ranch to trail to show to rodeo. His pedigree speaks for itself and is as foundation bred as they come. Poco Pine, Continental King, Whiskey Bert, Joe Reed II are all on his papers. It is important to note that King P-234 is very close up in his pedigree and he traces to King a total of 6 times! Angel’s first foal was a 2018 bay filly named Paddys Oak Italy JW by Hiline Whiskey. Her 2020 foal was a palomino stud colt named Amarillo Drift JW by Walter O Rielly. We kept her 2021 filly, Sagebrush Drift JW, as replacement broodmare for ourselves. In 2022 she had another filly, Pearl Drift JW, Her 2023 colt, Chalcedony Drift JW, is sold. Her 2024 filly was also by Radar, Moon Drift JW. She had two blue eyes and sold to a ranching family in Idaho. Pearl then joined Moon, as a started 3YO to the same family. They have a strong appreciation of the Radar daughters and plan to use them in their program.
Galadriel’s sire is Goldun Topsail aka “Topper” who is a 90% NFQHA (F0039287) dun stallion. This is his 5th foal crop. We acquired Topper as part of a package deal with his dam, Whizzin Lena. As a grandson of Topsail Whiz and a son of Jaz Poco Goldun Blue we could not be happier. His dam, Whizzin Lena aka Whiz is an older mare we purchased from Ryan Fleetwod at Fleetwood Farms. Bred at Bob Loomis Quarter Horses in Oklahoma, Whiz is a very well-bred reining mare. Sired by Topsail Whiz, the 1st and only NRHA 12 million dollar sire, and out of a mare by Justa Doc Olena by Doc O Lena, this mare was third in the South Country Derby Non-Pro division in 2001 and won the Non-Pro Reining Futurity at the Canadian Supreme in Red Deer, Alberta. Whiz’s earnings include NRHA $3,754. She also has four performing foals. Her sire Topsail Whiz is in the Hall of Fame, a NRHA money earner, NRHA #1 all time leading sire, AQHA World Show Qualifier, AQHA Leading Sire and ROM Performance. Topper’s sire is Jaz Poco Goldun Blue who is the most photographed or well-known grulla horse. He is 95% foundation and 27% Poco Bueno. With all the titles to his name, and to his progeny, there is no doubt that this is a horse who truly has it all - conformation, disposition, trainability, talent - all wrapped up in that great grulla color!“ as stated by previous owner Ryan Smith of Fleetwood Farms about Jaz Poco Goldun Blue. He was sold to Blue Valley Quarter Horses in NE and is now deceased. Blue was a NRHA money earner and earner of AQHA Open Performance Register Of Merritt. He had 22 pts in Junior & Senior Reining. He also competed in a few AQHA Working Cow Horse shows. His progeny has reported earnings of $10,724 as of 11/1/2024 in barrels, reining and reined cow horse. He also produced foals who have earned AQHA pts in a multitude of events from reining, cutting, VRH ranch riding, barrels, heading heeling and tie down roping, barrel racing, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle, pole bending, halter. This is a great testament to how versatile his offspring are.Topper started very well under saddle as a two year old. We were looking to add a higher foundation stallion to our herd since our other stallions were getting up in age. We are excited about Topper’s strong reining pedigree as well. He is bred to be a reining horse. His dam and sire are very proven in the reining world and he has several half siblings on both sides that are money earners in reining, reined cowhorse, cutting or barrels that are reported. We decided to not show Topper, but let him ride the "coat tails" of his dam, sire and siblings' achievements.
Galadriel is 92% NFQHA eligible. If you are drawn to old foundation breeding, this foal has got it! This is the first time we have paired this sire and dam together. We are always curious and excited to see how first time experiments grow out. Topper’s foals are quite the lookers and so far, are showing signs of being very trainable and agreeable. Angel has some of the prettiest babies. Galadriel should make a nice project for anyone. We are considering keeping her for ourselves but don’t hesitate to contact us if you are interested.
